2011 Summer Looks for Men and Women

!: 2011 Summer Looks for Men and Women

The sun has been shining over London and doesn't appear to be going anywhere too fast. There have been rumours of a 100-day heat wave. No one knows whether that's true and of course in this city, you never know what the weather will bring. For the meantime though, it is the patriotic duty of all Londoners to enjoy the sunshine, which means getting outside and doing so in style. By now most of us have probably put our sweaters away and pulled out our summer gear. Any ideas of what your summer look will be this year? Here are some ideas to get you thinking:

1. The casual, comfortable look

Ladies: sundresses and wedged sandals are nice but not necessarily ideal if you have a two mile walk to work every day. Big city living in the summer tends to be associated with humidity, smog, and a lot of commuting, which means that comfort is key. Never fear, a simple summer uniform of jean shorts, boho cream tops and brown leather sandals will keep you comfortable and cool all summer long. For the complete look you might want to invest in a couple of pairs of flat espadrilles and a trendy crocheted bag.

Gentlemen: If you don't have to wear a suit to work then why would you when the sun is out and you have the opportunity to be colourful and cool. Summer of 2011 is all about colour for men. Red, knee-length shorts with a tucked in dress shirt and a nice belt scream I am hip and happening. Bright blue jeans, a casual tee and a pair of coloured low-top runners yell, take me to the park for a picnic and a game of footy with friends.

2. Taking it up a notch:

Ladies: If jeans and a t-shirt aren't suitable for your work or a date on the beach, then stay comfortable and stylish in a long maxi dress and a pair of flat gladiator sandals. Maxi dresses are fashion's gift to women. They are long, they flow, and they are beautiful. The wind will never blow them all the way up, it often doesn't matter how big your lunch was, and not only are they stylish but elegant as well. The best part is, because they are floor length they are best suited with flats.

Gentlemen: If you're dressing to impress but still want to look unique, you might opt for a more traditional pair of dress shorts and then splash out with a bright coloured, light fabric blazer or jacket. Pair that look with a trendy pair of shades and some cool, designer jewellery and you'll wow the company you're with.

A few items to include in this summer's wardrobe: linen, coloured sandals, espadrilles, fedoras, and fun accessories.
